| Bio: | [January 2007 - the below is pretty out of date, but was about right when I was last regularly posting here. These days, you'll find me at Other Excuses] Welcome to my journal! Who is Duke Aldhein? (Apart from a mishearing-turned-nom-de-plume...) Sometime busker, door to door salesman and BBC journalist. This journal started while I was teaching EFL in Chinese Central Asia. These days I'm back in Sheffield, the city that's somehow adopted me. I still do bits of radio work to pay the bills, but most of my energy goes into other projects - I'm one of the editors of the weekly Pick Me Up e-zine, a member of the London School of Art & Business, working on an online project to transform education, and trying to finish writing a book called 'Changing the world (and other excuses for not getting a proper job)'. This journal goes through waves - its most consistent feature is the scrappiness of my writing, as I tend to use it as a dumping ground for whatever's in my head. I do enjoy the interaction with readers, though, and I keep thinking I'll get round to starting a proper blog where I put more effort into expressing ideas clearly and concisely. In the meantime, topics on which I ramble have included "reconstructionism" (whatever that might be), psychogeography, radical orthodox theology, the history of story, the future of feminism, the need for an English "cultural psychotherapy" and the applied surrealism that is my life. Also the writings of Alan Garner and John Berger, among others. If you want a slightly more presentable picture of who I am and what I do, my website may help - though it's overdue for an overhaul, so take it as a snapshot of where I was at in late 2005. (Oh, and before I get any knocks on the door from the CIA on account of my interests list, I'm interested in writing about "terrorism", not doing it!) | |||||
